Week 3 Giants 24, Redskins 17

So much for 3-0. I knew this was going to be a trap game. I just knew it, and sure enough the Skins found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. They blew a 14 point halftime lead and let the Giants score 21 unanswered points in the second half. In spite of this the Redskins had a chance to force overtime with three shots at the end zone from the Giants one-yard line with under a minute left in the game. They couldn't do it. They had all 280 pounds+ of Mike Sellers who could fall one yard and score but didn't utilize him.

The running game disappeared in the second half and they couldn't sustain a drive until the final minute of the game. Rock Cartwirght and Randle El set up the offense with good field position several times either at mid-field or in Giants territory, but the offense sputtered. The defense on the field for more than 20 minutes could not stop the Giants from scoring, even when forcing three turnovers.

I hope Gibbs and the team watch the game film endlessly through the bye-week so they realize that in the NFL, unless you are one of the few legitimate contenders, for the rest of the league there is a thin line between 5-11 and making the playoffs.
